Prata-Man Singaporean Cuisine

Restaurant: Prata-Man Singaporean Cuisine Restaurant

Cuisine: Singaporean/Malaysian
Last visited: November 19, 09
Area: Richmond, BC
#180 - 9020 Capstan Way
Price Range: $10-20

1: Poor 2: OK 3: Good 4: Very good 5: Excellent 6: Tres Excellent!!

Food: 4 (if you stick to recommended items)
Service: 3
Ambiance: 2

Overall: 3.5
Additional comments:

  • Family owned and operated – Chinese Malaysian
  • Very popular to locals
  • Popular hole in the wall
  • Homemade/home style
  • More Chinese-Malaysian, than authentic Malaysian food
  • Seats 20
  • Busy for lunch
  • Quick eat, cheap prices
  • Lunch and dinner service
  • Eat-in/Take-out (Eat in if you can, paratha bread is better fresh)
  • Cheaper price for take-out (I would still prefer to eat in)
  • Cash only

**Recommendation: Chicken curry, paratha bread, Hainanese Chicken (Don’t bother exploring their items, these are the ones)

This place is the definition of “hole in the wall” – the location is quite hidden at the end of a small plaza on Cambie. It seats about 20 and everything looks really rundown from inside and out. Even the chefs/cooks are wearing those super thin plastic disposable aprons – the same material they use as table cloths at cheap dim sum places. As much as a dive this place feels and looks it manages to be one of the most popular hole in the walls in Richmond…maybe even THE most popular.

I’ve been here on a few occasions and people often get take-out from here for potluck dinners. I’ve always been pretty impressed by it until I started ordering items that aren’t as popular. Don’t bother exploring the menu. I also got take-out on my last visit there and I’ve never really been disappointed, except on this occasion. So I’m going to base my review taking all my visits there into consideration too.

On the table:

  • Beef Rendang 1/6
    • This is a very popular Malaysian dish, but the one they make here is not representable of it at all! It’s supposed to be a beef slowly cooked in coconut milk and Malaysian spices until it becomes falling apart tender and absorbs all the liquids and juices it’s cooked in. However they made it into beef brisket curry – beef rending looks and tastes NOTHING like this.
    • First, it’s supposed to be a deep reddish brown colour, not yellow.
    • I kept thinking maybe they made a mistake with my order. But they told me it would take longer, which it should because it’s slow cooked; however I think it took longer here because nobody orders it. It took 15 min. to make – so I know there was no mistake, it was just not Beef Rendang.
    • It had beef brisket, potatoes and curry sauce. Even as a beef brisket and curry it wasn’t that great. The beef brisket was extremely fatty and there was hardly any meat.
    • Where to get REAL AUTHENTIC Beef Rendang: Kedah House on 1652 South East Marine Drive, Vancouver (East Van). The best here.
  • Paratha Bread 5/6
    • I love their paratha bread here, but because I got take-out it wasn’t as good as good. I would really recommend eating in if you can. If you get it to go I’d order it with rice.
    • It almost tastes like there’s potatoes in the recipe. It’s fresh and made upon order. It’s very soft with a crispy outside and it pulls apart beautifully. It’s a bit thicker and bigger than what most places will serve.
    • It must be eaten with their curries. Yum!
  • Tofu Goreng 3/6
    • Deep fried tofu with bean sprouts and peanut satay sauce for dipping.
    • This is a very popular Malaysian appetizer that Malaysian people would order. The recipe isn’t authentic here.
    • Again, better if you eat-in, and again it’s not a poplar item and they do make it better at other places. The best I’ve had it is again at Kedah House.
    • The tofu was big pieces, which is good because some places serve it with tiny pieces.
    • It’s very crispy, but didn’t have soy sauce or chili sauce. I’m not sure if they serve it differently when you eat-in, but tofu goreng has to be served with chili soy sauce.
    • The peanut satay sauce on the other hand was amazing! There was lots of ground peanuts, garlic, ginger and I think some honey to combine it all and sweeten things up. It was very fresh with fresh pureed lemongrass too. It was thick, slightly spicy, sweet, and nutty.

The Hub Restaurant & Lounge

Cuisine: American/Pub food
Last visited: December 1, 09
Area: Vancouver, BC (Yaletown/Downtown)
1165 Mainland Street
Price Range
: $10-20

1: Poor 2: OK 3: Good 4: Very good 5: Excellent 6: Tres Excellent!!

Food: 3.5 (Based on signature items)
Service: n/a
Ambiance: 3
Overall: 3
Additional comments:

  • Pub/comfort food/classic American or UK dishes
  • A couple classics w/twists
  • Pub food served nicely on white plates
  • Wine list/bar
  • Attracts ages 30-45
  • Focus on appies
  • Brunch served on weekends until 2pm
  • Old/classic rock music
  • Good for sports fans/games
  • Casual, but lively
  • Happy/Appy hour 4-6pm $6
  • Hearty food
  • Hub prime rib special after 5pm Sunday and Monday 16.99 9oz

**Recommendation: Wok squid, Lobster Wings, Chocolate Chip Pazookie

The Hub is a new restaurant that just opened in Yaletown. It was previously Brown’s Social House and the owners are still the same however the restaurant is now new and independently owned. For me it was more restaurant/pub/sports bar than lounge. It attracts a 30-45 year old crowd and it’s one of those casual places where they serve traditional pub food on nice white square plates.

Located in Yaletown it faces lot of competition. So how does it compare?

Society – The Hub has same comfort food concept, but it’s less gourmet & trendy. Society is more lounge.

Glowbal – The Hub serves their version of Kobe meatballs, but I didn’t try them yet.

Yaletown Brewery – The Hub serves more traditional items (a couple globally inspired ones eg: Wok squid, Teriyaki rice bowl)…and it has the same sports bar atmosphere, but attracts an older crowd

I came here on a night of an event – their grand opening, so under the circumstances I can’t comment on the service or overall food on a usual night. I personally experienced good service this night though. I sampled their signature dishes, so I will comment on those. That being said, I cannot speak for their overall food since I tried most of the favourites.

The Hub’s claim to fame or signature dishes include:

hubSNAX: wok squid, lobster wings, poutine, bruschetta

hubMAINS: crispy chicken club, beef dip, crab mac n’ cheese, red wine braised beef

hubSWEETS: pazookie

For my review on The Hub's signature dessert: "The Pazookie"

The photos are not representable of what they actually serve since everything I had was sample size…except for the Wok Squid, bruschetta and Pazookie.

On the table:

  • **Wok Squid 4/6
    • Tossed with garlic, chilies and ginger $10
    • Basically calamari with an Asian spin. It tastes like deep fried squid you would get at a Chinese place, but made by white people. It’s still good though. The squid was lightly battered and tender, not tough.

    • They use fresh ginger, red chilies, and green onions.
    • It’s a little spicy and has a nice heat at the end which I like. (Spicier than lobster wings)
    • It doesn’t say on the menu, but make sure you get it with their homemade sesame ginger dipping sauce. Great combo because the squid has heat and the dip cool s it down. The balance is great.
    • It looked and tasted almost like tzatziki, which I wasn’t expecting. It’s probably made with either yogurt or sour cream. It tastes like sour cream mixed with sesame and ginger vinaigrette salad dressing. It was cool and tangy and the sesame and ginger taste came through.

  • **Lobster Wings 5/6
    • Crispy coating, sesame ginger dipping sauce $13
    • Yes! A lobster wing! You can only imagine my excitement when I saw this. They serve 2 lobster tails split in half. So you get 4 “lobster wings in total”. That would be enough just for me. But I guess if you have to share…I would only share with one more person.
    • It has a very light crispy coating or dusting, which is great because you don’t want to waste the natural flavour of the lobster by masking it with a thick batter. The batter is seasoned with salt and something else that carries a little heat...maybe paprika? (The wok squid is spicier)
    • The menu says it comes with the sesame ginger dipping sauce, but they decided to go back to tradition and served it with clarified butter. I tried it with the sesame ginger dipping sauce and it was good, but to be honest I actually enjoyed these lobster wings plain. It didn’t need any dips. The batter was seasoned enough and the lobster meat was crunchy and tender…would hate to mask any of those flavours or textures.
    • For $13 it is a pricier appy, but you have to somewhat expect it if you’re getting 2 lobster tails. Hmm I wonder if this is on their happy hour menu. Because that would be such a deal for $6! I think it is since the menu says ALL hubSNAX, but they probably give you less. I just don’t really how well this item will do since it is a bit “gourmet”. How many guys go watch the game thinking let’s order some lobster wings? I hope it stays…for selfish reasons.
  • Bruschetta on Filone Bread 2/6
    • Tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, shaved Asiago $8
    • This was really average for me. It can’t compete with Glowbal’s Bruschetta sampler, but that one is in a different league.I really like that one.

    • The tomatoes were a bit powdery in texture. I wonder if they used BC tomatoes rather than Roma. It was missing onions and seasonings. They drizzled balsamic glaze over top, but it was nothing I couldn’t put together at home. The Filone bread was nice and crunchy though.
  • Crispy Chicken Club 2.5/6 (on left)
    • Fresh Filone Bread, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese $13
    • The good: The chicken for sure! This was the crispiest chicken; I almost thought I was eating ground peanuts. Nothing soggy about this, it had almost a nutty flavour because it was so crispy and the chicken was still juicy.
    • The bad: I didn’t like how thick the Filone bread was. It got overpowering and I couldn’t taste the other ingredients.
  • Beef Dip 3/6 (on right)
    • Fresh Filone Bread, prime rib, au jus $14
    • Relatively thick slices of beef, not shavings. It’s prime rib so it worked. It was very buttery and juicy meat. The meat was actually kind of fatty so that’s probably why it was so juicy too. They used some grainy mustard instead of horseradish, and I think they could have used a bit more. I would have also like some caramelized onions.
    • Unlike the chicken club, the Filone bread worked for the beef dip . Since you would dip it into the au jus, having a thick bread would allow it to easily absorb all those flavours.

  • Crab Mac & Cheese 2.5/6
    • Gruyere, Parmesan, Aged Cheddar, garlic bread $15
    • You know I love mac & cheese, so I can get quite particular about it.
    • The cheese sauce was creamier rather than stringy and I like it when it’s creamy AND stringy. You could taste the buttery Gruyere, but it wasn’t really cheesy in flavour. It actually had a little heat to it too. Most of the items had some degree of spiciness, which made the food more bold/pub-ish.
    • There was crab throughout, but I didn't really like the type of crab they were using, or maybe it was how it was used. It was so flaked I couldn’t tell if it was crab or unmelted grated white cheddar cheese. It was a bit dark too so I couldn’t see what I was eating. I didn't know it was crab until I re-read the menu.

  • Red Wine Braised Beef
    • Rich demi-glaze, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables $20
    • I don’t even know how to rate this since it was only a sample…I would need to go back and re-order it to be fair. All the other I can an idea, but with a dish like this – a sample won’t do it. If I were to rate it as a sample I’d say 3.5
    • The demi-glaze was reduced with a nice red wine and it tasted like a rich gourmet beef gravy. It was sweet and also savoury and goes great with the mash. They actually used the same demi-glaze as the gravy for their poutine.
    • The beef was very lean and the cut was a brisket. It was tender, but not shred away with your fork tender. You still had to work at it a bit, but it was still good. Maybe they could marinade the meat longer to tenderize it…I bet they do slow cook it for a while so I don’t think that’s the part that needs attention. I think it would have been a 5/6 if they used the rib instead of brisket…but it would also be more expensive.
    • The mash was a traditional creamy mash...it was actually very creamy and very smooth. There was nothing fancy about them, no chopped chives or roasted garlic, just a creamy smooth, very pureed mash. I liked it.

Pearl Castle

Restaurant: Pearl Castle
Cuisine: Taiwanese/Chinese/Bubble Tea
Last visited: Sept. 19, 09
Area: Richmond, BC
6551 No. 3 Road
Price Range: $10-20

1: Poor 2: OK 3: Good 4: Very good 5: Excellent 6: Tres Excellent!!

Food: 3.5
Service: 1
Ambiance: 3
Overall: 3
Additional comments:
  • Taiwanese dishes
  • Specializes in bubble tea
  • Wide variety of drinks
  • Offers hot food/mini hot pot/snacks
  • Service is never great at either location
  • Busy/line-ups during peak hours
  • More spacious than Continental Plaza location
  • Affordable food/lunch specials
  • Pricier drinks
  • Quick sit down lunches
  • Open late
  • Set meals available for lunch or dinner

** Recommendation: Bubble tea, chicken nuggets, Pepper-salt Chicken knees

This is perhaps the most popular bubble tea place in Richmond. Everyone loves it. It's open late and attracts a younger crowd at night. It's brightly lit so older people go as well and there's always a line-up at peak hours.

The newest location (I think the 4th one now) is located inside Richmond Centre across from Carlton Cards and McDonald's. It's quite spacious compared to the original (on Sexsmith), but still busy.

I've been to the original one numerous time. However I must say I'm a bit nervous about it now ever since a friend of mine got sick from a milk-based bubble tea she had there. Apparently they didn't store their milk properly. Please comment on this post if you have had a similar experience. I have never gotten sick, so I hope it was a rare case that they learned from.

On the table:

  • Japanese Green Tea Frappe with Milk and Pearls 4/6
    • It's pretty expensive at $4.75 and that's not including pearls.
    • It was a tad sweet but the pearls are great. Nice and chewy and they give you a lot.
    • The slushes are called "frappes" here.
    • They use a lot of Matcha powder in this as you can tell by the colour. It's very pungent in green tea flavour and you get that slight bitterness. A lot of places use green tea ice green or substitutes for real Matcha powder - but you get the real deal here.
  • **Chicken Nuggets 4/6
    • I didn't order it on this occasion, but their deep fried items are actually really good here. These chicken nuggets are surprisingly good! They're made in house with white meat and they have a really crispy and flavourful breading.
  • **Pepper-salt chicken knees 4/6
    • Again, I didn't order on this occasion.
    • If you like salt and pepper chicken wings you'll like these. It tastes and looks like popcorn chicken. The breading is just really good and they're really fresh. They serve it with a plum sauce.
  • House Special Beef Noodle Soup 3.5/6
    • This was quite tasty. The beef broth was pretty thick and flavourful, but I can't help but to think they used some pre-made beef broth for assistance. The colour was just so deep it didn't look natural. It was a bit oily and they used chili oil in it so it was nice and spicy.
    • The noodles were nice and chewy and had a firmer texture. (Not made in house and I don't expect them to be...for a place that specializes in bubble tea)
    • They give you about 6 chunks of beef brisket which were relatively lean for beef brisket. They were really tender and really did fall apart.
    • For what it is and this kind of place it's actually pretty expensive at $7.95.
  • Taiwanese Egg Roll 2/6
    • This is a fried egg rolled in a deep fried Asian style pancake or crepe.
    • I had to wait like 15min for this, which is good because it means they're making it fresh...but 15min. was not worth the wait for what it was.
    • The pancake was a thin deep fried crepe but it wasn't very good because it was soggy and kind of stale. It's not fluffy or crispy, just dough like. They either buy it frozen and deep fry it or the oil was not hot enough and they allowed it to soak in the oil rather than fry.
    • I like the crispy fried egg on the inside though - the only thing that gave it texture. The break the yolk during the frying process so it's fully cooked. It's the same thickness as the pancake so you get really even layers in the roll. When eaten together it's good, but overall it still needed more texture. The pancake part just wasn't done well.
    • It's served with a garlic Teriyaki-like sauce.
    • The red sauce on top is a spicy red sauce that's really salty and pungent. It's definitely some kind of fermented sauce, but I'm not sure what.
    • It was worth a try and it's an interesting appy, but it's also kind of plain.
  • The dessert they serve with all their set meals - a frozen Costco cream puff.

Nordy's BBQ & Grill

Restaurant: Nordy's BBQ & Grill
Cuisine: Barbeque/American
Last visited: October 9, 09
Area: Loveland, Colorado
4360 St. Cloud Drive
Price Range: $10-20 USD

1: Poor 2: OK 3: Good 4: Very good 5: Excellent 6: Tres Excellent!!

Food: 3
Service: 4
Ambiance: 3
Overall: 3
Additional comments:
  • Beer & BBQ
  • Best baked beans EVER
  • BBQ meats were just ok
  • Homemade desserts
  • They don't waste - use leftover meats for baked beans
  • Use leftover cornbread for croutons
  • Busy/crowded/line-ups
  • Casual, lively atmosphere
  • M-F All you can eat lunch buffet $9.50USD
  • Family/kid-friendly

**Recommendation: Aunt Judy's Beans, Maple syrup cornbread muffins, croutons

As you can see, none of my recommendations were their BBQ meats. There's a million of these BBQ joint in North America and I've been to a handful - I almost always order the "feed a tiny country" platters. So I'm quite familiar with my bbq and have a high standard for good bbq. So far nothing beats good ol' fashioned Texas bbq...although I have yet to hit other Southern states like Mississippi and Louisiana...I'm sure those are major hubs for competition.

Therefore, I've had better versions of all of the meats Nordy's offered. It was packed with locals and you can tell it's a favourite, so I'm assuming it's one of their best bbq houses. I've definitely had better...even some places in Vancouver do better bbq meats.

The portions of everything on the platter aren't right either. The platter for 4 always feeds up to 6. However at Nordy's they give you hardly any beef brisket and pulled pork...literally just a sample for 4. They just loaded the platter with ribs and chicken and the ribs weren't even that good. You needed a bite of everything to enjoy this platter, but it didn't help that the brisket and pork ran out way before the others.

On the table:
  • **Aunt Judy's Beans 6/6
    • This was the best baked beans I've ever had in my life!
    • It has pinto beans, navy beans & black beans! They use the leftover smoked meats from the day and add it to the baked beans. So it's loaded with all their meats like brisket, sausage, pulled pork and bacon!
    • These beans are almost like a really saucy stew. Thick, rich, hearty and soooo flavourful made with molasses and brown sugar. Savoury from all the meats and sweet and tangy from the sauce. The texture is also amazing, biting into all those pieces of meat mixed with all those different kinds of beans. I've never had anything like it. It's a meal in itself.
    • It tates like BBQ sauce so I used it for everything else on the platter especially since nothing else was smothered in bbq sauce. The beans worked perfectly! I even dipped my cornbread into it. SO GOOD!

  • St. Louis Style Ribs 2/6
    • They call them "falling off the bone" but they definitely were not. They say they cook it for 5 hours too. But we all had to work to get the meat off the bone. I felt like they boiled the ribs first and then barbequed them. Not very tender...I was definitely biting meat off the bone.
    • They used this dry rub that could have been better, it just tasted salty. It was also a bit too charred and the meat wasn't tender so it didn't help the situation.
    • They do give you a lot though and they are really big pork ribs if that counts for anything.
  • BBQ Beef Brisket 3.5/6
    • The menu says "Even Texans are envious of this"...but I was actually dining WITH three Texans and they weren't.
    • Yes, it was very tender, but the cut they used was really lean which made it not as juicy as it could have been. You know you're getting good brisket when they let you select your cut. For example hole in the wall chain restaurant, Rudy's BBQ in Texas, let's you select the amount of fat for your brisket: Moist (fat is marbled) or Lean (little fat)
    • It was soft and tender, but it still required me to use my knife and fork. You can tell by the way it's folding in the picture...really tender beef brisket would just break apart with little effort.
    • They gave us 4 strips of beef brisket - barely enough in proportion to everything else.
  • Smoked Sausage 4/6
    • Big, fat, plump, and juicy - this one was a general favourite but it was also really salty. I had to alternate bites of it with something else.
  • Down Home Roasted Chicken 2.5/6
    • Large pieces of chicken and it was slow roasted with a dry rub and served with a crispy skin. It was actually really tender and moist and cooking it with the skin helped lock in the moisture. It didn't have an outstanding flavour or anything, I couldn't see or taste the dry rub, but they did a good job on the roasting.
  • Carolina Pork 3.5/6
    • It's hickory smoked and chopped to order.
    • They didn't give us enough of this either. The pulled pork is the tiny pile beside the beef brisket.
    • It was good pulled pork, but Ive had better. There was nothing special about this one. It tasted great with the beans though.
  • Maple Syrup Cornbread Muffins 5/6
    • These were great! Buttery, soft and moist! They bake them in house daily so they're really fresh! They had perfectly browned tops and a maple syrup glaze to give them a slight sweetness and gloss. We ordered extras!
  • Pasta Slaw 2/6
    • It was cole slaw with macaroni. Nothing special. Really really standard and too watery.
  • Garden Salad
    • Notice the croutons!!
  • Croutons 6/6
    • They use the left over cornbread muffins from that day to make these. It tastes like sweet corn bread biscotti! So crunchy and soooo good! It was such a good idea to use it as croutons!
    • We ordered an extra bowl of just croutons.
    • That's one thing I loved about Nordy's - they waste nothing!

Claire's on the Park Restaurant

In-house smoked bbq pulled beef brisket

Restaurant: Claire's On the Park
Cuisine: American
Last visited: October 9, 09
Area: Estes Park, Colorado
225 Park Lane, Estes Park
Price Range: $10-20 USD

1: Poor 2: OK 3: Good 4: Very good 5: Excellent 6: Tres Excellent!!

Food: 2
Service: 4
Ambiance: 3
Overall: 2
Additional comments:
  • Since 1980
  • Casual family style diner
  • Beautiful view from deck
  • Extensive menu
  • Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Smokes their own meat
  • Homestyle American classics
  • Offers everything from meatloaf, bbq, steak and seafood

**Recommendation: BBQ Beef Brisket, BBQ Pork Sandwich, "Smokin Al's Specials"

The main reason we chose Claire's is because of the name. I was with my cousin whose name is also "Claire" so it was more for fun. It looked like a quaint little diner and we happened to find parking right in front of it so it was out of convenience too. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but it's Mom and Pop style gave me hope that we were trying a local gem. The food was a little more than expected for a diner. I did appreciate the fact that the meats were smoked in house though, however that's as far as effort goes. The recipes and selection are all really simple and the execution of each dish is a no brainer. I do give props to the in house smoked meats and bbq sauce though, but the quality of ingredients for everything else was very average or even a tad below.

On the table:
  • Crab Cakes 4/6 just for the crab cakes, not for the sauce
    • Homemade crab cakes served with "roasted red pepper sauce"
    • I was really surprised with this dish. I really like crab cakes so I didn't hesitate too much on ordering them mainly because it said "homemade". I thought they'd be 50% shrimp, but they weren't. There was lots of crab in them which I'm glad because it was $10.50USD which is on the expensive side. They were nice and flaky and fried until golden brown and crispy.
    • On the other hand the "roasted red pepper sauce" tasted like red pepper relish mixed with 80% regular relish. It was pretty gross and did not suit the crab cakes at all. I think it ruined them actually. I would rather eat these plain, but plain they were a little dry on their own.
  • Fried Gnocchi 1/6
    • Deep fried potato dumplings deep fried and served with marinara sauce.
    • This was really disappointing. I was excited for them too!
    • The potato dumplings were definitely the packaged shelf ones. Cook and serve gnocchi. It taste like deep fried balls of plain dough - not even potato. I would have preferred fries...at least those have seasoning and flavour.
    • The marinara sauce was straight from a jar...a crappy watery brand too.
    • This was a 5 min. grocery store meal and it tasted that way too.
  • **BBQ Beef Brisket 3.5/6
    • Mesquite smoked pulled beef brisket served on Ciabatta bread with homemade bbq sauce.
    • Claire's definitely prides itself on smoking their own meats and now I know why. I was quite impressed with their recipe and cooking method. The brisket was quite tender and it had this hickory smoked flavour that was nice. It was on the dry side though and the meat didn't look like it was tender enough to be easily shred. But on the whole it was still very good for the restaurant's standards.

    • A nice drizzle of bbq sauce was the perfect touch, however I didn't want to add to much because I didn't want to overpower the natural flavour of the smoked meat.
    • The bbq sauce was nice and thick, probably heavy on the molasses. It was served warm and it has a nice kick at the end. The kick wasn't really spicy, but kind of tangy, I'm pretty sure they put Worcestershire sauce in it. This homemade bbq sauce was the perfect match for their smoked meat.
    • This sandwich was piled with lots of meat and it came with a side of lettuce and tomatoes to complete the sandwich fixings. I didn't even eat it with any veggies because the meat was really good on its own.
    • I would have preferred it on a softer bread rather than the ciabatta. Since it was pulled meat I think it would have tasted better on a bread that wasn't as chewy.
  • **BBQ Pulled Pork 3/6
    • This was the same as the bbq pulled brisket except with pulled pork. The flavours were the same, except I found the brisket to be a little more flavourful. Probably because beef has a stronger and richer flavour than pork.
    • We got both sandwiches with sweet potato fries and these were good too.
  • Brie Sandwich 2/6
    • Melted brie, arugula, and strawberry jam on a steak roll.
    • This was a sweet and savoury sandwich served warm.
    • The quality and portion of ingredients should have been much better. They could have given more brie especially since they call it a Brie sandwich. The sandwich was assembled together quite roughly, so it had more potential.
    • The strawberry jam had a few actual strawberries in it, but not that many. It's really smooth - a poor brand that was syrup based rather than real fruit based.
    • I would have preferred this one on a toasted ciabatta bun rather than a steak roll since the ingredients are a bit more gourmet.
    • We ordered this one with potato salad, which was very mediocre. I don't even really remember it.
